With some careful thought and a little effort, you can use the information from your Personal Destiny picture to direct your life in positive ways. What you are most destined to do, i.e.: what will make you happiest, will happen if you understand and embrace your Personal Destiny picture.
To achieve your unique Personal Destiny, follow the steps below:
- Commit a small block of time to this process. It has been said that "an unexamined life is not worth living." So whether it is 10 minutes or a couple hours, this time may be the most well-spent in your day, week, or life!
- Find a quiet place free from distractions, a place where you will not be interrupted. This simple act of setting aside a time and place for personal reflection and decision-making is a powerful symbol of your willingness to shape your future in a positive way.
- Take time to think and meditate on your Personal Destiny in an accepting and constructive way. Focus first on your Core Destiny and what that says about the kind of person you are (reflect on your strengths as well as your weaknesses). Consider also the Supporting Destinies and what your percentages tell you, but don't judge yourself. Make a list of the aspects of your core destiny that you feel aptly describes who you are. Consider adding those aspects of your supporting destinies that also ring true for you.
- Consider what you are drawn to do, what times in your life you have been the happiest, and what you would like to achieve. Make sure to write all of this down.
- Consider what's important to you. Finish open-ended phrases like, "If I could spend a year learning about anything, it would be..." and "The way I could really make an impact would be to..." and "I would feel great at the end of the day if I..." and "It would be a blast to..." and "I would be really good at..."
- Write down your thoughts without judgment. Remember that there is no shame in an interest or an idea.
- Consider next those people you feel have lived out their destinies. Think about how they were able to achieve that goal, especially the small steps they must have taken to get there. Write down 3 examples of people who have done what you want to do. Are there any strategies that they employed that you feel you could emulate? Write down those strategies.
- Decide what would make your own destiny more fully realized. Whether it is a long-term goal or a change in how you behave, write it down. You can have more than one!
- Write down a list of the small, concrete steps that are necessary to achieve that goal.
- Come up with a reasonable time period that each step should take, and write down the timeline of your goal achievement. When you are tempted to think that the goal would take "too long," consider how quickly the last six months have gone or the last five years. Remember that in small steps, great distances can be covered.
- Put the daily steps down on a calendar that you will see every day.
- Before you go to bed, schedule the time when you will take the step the next day.
- Celebrate benchmarks of your journey (the halfway, quarter-way, or even the ten percent mark). This symbolizes the fact that the accomplishment is ongoing and not simply an outcome.
- Think about the rewards of your efforts and how you might build on them to bring you even closer to your destiny. Then, begin again at step one.

As you now very well know, your Personal Destiny is composed of many different personality forces that operate in differing degrees and create the totally unique person that you are. You've also learned that by understanding your tendencies, you can come to terms with your personal strengths and weaknesses. It's only when you accept and build on the kind of person you really are that you can maximize your talent and feel fulfilled. You would, in fact, be surprised to learn how many people do not accept who they really are and how often that means they are troubled or worse, depressed.
For example, imagine that you are 17 and you naturally gravitate toward artistic expression; you love drawing landscapes or working through melodies on your guitar. You have hopes one day of becoming well known and loved for your art because you want the world to know who you are — you have feelings and perspectives you think are important to share. Now, let's say your parents have something else in mind for you. They have pushed you since childhood to study science and they tell friends and family that you are going to make them proud by becoming a doctor. They see that sort of profession as one of real success, and you want to impress them, but the books you have to read bore you and you can't help but doodle in the margins. As a result of your lack of interest, you do poorly in your science classes, and while you hate them anyway, you feel bad because you know your parents are going to be angry. As punishment, they don't pay for your guitar and drawing lessons, and eventually you stop coming up with cool melodies or staring at sunsets. You get a tutor and you try to do better in science, but you feel like crying a lot of the time.
Just imagine what this situation is doing to your obvious true personal destiny to become an artist. Your ability to freely express yourself, have an impact on others, forge new relationships, and share your thoughts and feelings is completely hampered, and this will undoubtedly make you feel depressed. While it isn't your parents' intention to make you unhappy, the fact that they are unwittingly pushing you in a direction that you are not supposed to go could potentially ruin your life.
We know this because of an interesting piece of psychological research that helped us see more deeply the consequences of not following your destiny. Researchers discovered something unexpected about the way the mind works while studying Classical Conditioning, the concept behind it being that when a dog hears a bell right before receiving food, it will salivate upon hearing the bell ring in the future because it has learned to associate the sound of the bell with receiving food.
To understand how this situation related to a negative experience, researchers restrained the dog in a hammock and then paired the bell sound with a harmless shock from the floor. They then removed the hammock and put the dog in an area with a low fence that it could easily jump over. They expected that when the dog heard the bell, it would jump over the fence to escape the shock. What they found was that the dog had actually learned that resistance was futile, and while it knew the shock was coming, it did nothing to escape. The unrestrained dogs, however, did not learn the futility and easily chose to jump over the fence.
This phenomenon is called Learned Helplessness and directly relates to Personal Destiny. Think of the hammock as the thing restraining you from being yourself and pursuing your own unique personal destiny. As the artist, your "hammock" is partly your parents, but it's partly you — you are not in control of your life. You are frustrated and living a lie every time you pick up a science book. Your frustration turns into depression because you're not living up to who your parents want you to be, nor are you living up to who you want to and should be. But imagine if you took control of your life? Imagine if you tried to unlearn the "hammock"? What if you showed your parents the beautiful sunsets you'd captured over the years on canvas? What if you played them the songs you'd written for the guitar? What if you told them that you were absolutely miserable and felt like there was nothing to hope for? What if you could find the words to articulate your pain and make your parents understand? Then you would no longer be helpless and could pursue your destiny to be an artist, making yourself and everyone around you happier for having understood your Personal Destiny.

Tickle's Destiny Test was developed to gain clarity around the most suitable life paths for each of 16 Jungian-based personality dimensions measured. Each individual will possess a unique blend of each, in varying intensities, with one primary destiny or core and 15 supporting life paths or purposes. In addition, Attribution Theory and Learned Helplessness were applied in order to understand the negative implications of resisting your true and natural personality. Understanding the nature of personality types helped define in what ways individuals could act to be more in harmony with their personalities and thus more in harmony with their natural selves and thus more aligned with their unique life path.
